The final was played in front of a packed crowd on Espinho beach in northern Portugal, with the home team setting the tone after scoring with only three seconds on the clock.


The win means Portugal’s golden generation of footballers, many of them approaching 40, will finally have a medal to accompany their enormous talent shown since the turn of the century.
