Algarve Covid-19 ICU at 25% occupancy

The Intensive Care Unit for patients with Covid-19 at the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA) has registered an occupation rate of 25%, a source from the Regional Administration of Health (ARS) told Lusa today.

In a written reply sent to Lusa, the same source said that the capacity of CHUA for patients with Covid-19 in Intensive Care is 12 beds - which have a current occupancy rate of 25% -, while in the ward it is 48 beds, currently with 25 inpatients, which represents an occupation rate of 52%.

“Since this is a dynamic process, which adapts to the reality and needs of the moment due to the evolution of the covid-19 pandemic in the Algarve region, CHUA health units may, in the next phase, extend the number of Intensive Care Beds up to 51 beds ”, said ARS / Algarve.

Today Portugal registered 7,497 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus, the highest daily value since the beginning of the pandemic, and another 59 deaths related to covid-19, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).

In the Algarve, the number of new infections registered until 00:00 on Tuesday is 81, bringing the total number of cases accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic to 3,032.

The death toll remains unchanged, with 29 deaths in the region since March.

According to the bulletin released today, the number of new cases includes the sum of 3,570 cases, resulting from the delay in laboratory reporting, mainly from a laboratory in the North region, since October 30th.
