Asbestos being removed from schools

The Minister for Territorial Cohesion has said that the conditions are now in place for the work to remove asbestos from schools to be concluded by the start of the next school year.

Ana Abrunhosa stated that the Asbestos Removal Program in Schools "is practically concluded".

The minister pointed out that 94 percent of the 487 applications for this school program were approved in 133 municipalities.

According to Ana Abrunhosa, “at this moment” 58 schools have completed the work and 115 schools have work in progress.

There are more than 380 educational establishments with the tender launched and another 30 are preparing the procedure, in the final process of analysis, he stressed.

"Therefore, it means that we have all the conditions created so that the last jobs can be done during the summer holidays, which will be good news for our schools and for our families", she said.

The Asbestos Removal Program in Schools has a support of 46.5 million Euros and represents a total investment of 62 million Euros.
