According to information provided by SchengenVisaInfo.com, flights from the United Kingdom to Portugal, Spain and Italy may face some delays this summer, due to a new air traffic control system that the French authorities will launch in April.

While the system is being set up, planes using French airspace will have to be rerouted to avoid any confusion.

“Given that flights from the United Kingdom to Portugal, Spain and some parts of Italy currently use French airspace, this means that the new change will cause delays”, admit the French authorities.

Commenting on the situation, the director of operations at Deutsche Flugsicherung, the company responsible for air traffic control in Germany, admitted that flight delays and deviations from one airspace to another will be “unavoidable”. However, he stresses that they are working to “reduce delays to a minimum”, and are working with European partners.
