The memorandum of understanding for the project to advance has been signed at that Alentejo aerodrome, during the first day of the "biggest aeronautical summit" in the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal Air Summit, which takes place until Saturday.

The document was signed by the municipality of Ponte de Sor and EEA Aircraft, an integrating entity that ensures the development, industrialization and commercialization from Portugal of the aircraft called LUS 222.

Speaking to journalists, Miguel Braga, from the Center for Engineering and Development (CEiiA), explained that the LUS 222 will be a light regional aircraft, "non-pressurised, with 19 seats, for two thousand kilograms of cargo and for two thousand kilograms of reach".

According to the official, who estimated that the investment in the project will be around "100 million euros", it is a plane "destined" for the markets of Africa and South America.

According to the promoters, the engineering development is fixed in the Alentejo Science and Technology Park, in Évora, and the industrialization in the Municipal Aerodrome in Ponte de Sor.

"What we anticipate by the end of 2025, first quarter of 2026, is having the first aircraft manufactured for certification".
