At the end of the ENIPSSA National Meeting – National Strategy for the Integration of Homeless People, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa defends the need to "do everything to, within a reasonable time, eradicate this social wound, this social failure, of all".

"It is not the only one, there are other failures. Poverty, in general, is a failure in a society", warned the head of state, affirming that there are conditions to eradicate the homeless.

The President of the Republic found that society is facing a “new situation” of crisis, which “is not as critical as the most critical phase of the pandemic, but which is more complex”.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also highlighted the priorities that were defined at the meeting in Leiria: “of all, the most important, as a backdrop, is to dream; the most important, in concrete terms, is housing”.

“Housing was less complicated in 2016, 2017 and 2018 than it was from 2019, when tourism prices” made real estate more expensive, which makes “access to housing” more difficult.

For the head of state, it is also necessary to “go further in the health component, in employability, whenever possible, and much further in civic participation, that is, further in prevention”.

“This only increases our responsibility, it does not weaken our passion. We have to be more responsible, but, for that very reason, more passionate about this cause”, he pointed out, recognising that society “is more awake to this national priority”.
