"On the 17th, 18th and 19th of March, Teatro da Comuna and Fórum Lisboa will open their doors to celebrate Hot Clube, one of the most emblematic Jazz clubs in Europe. Three days, two spaces, seven concerts, one round table. 2023 is the year in which 75 years of Hot Clube are celebrated", reads a statement released about the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz Festival.

The oldest active European jazz club was officially founded on March 19, 1948, when Luiz Villas-Boas, music lover and its founder, filled out membership form number one.

The festival begins at Teatro da Comuna, which on the 17th hosts a performance by the trio Lokomotiv, bassist Carlos Barretto, guitarist Mário Delgado and drummer José Salgueiro, and a 'jam session' by the trio of pianist Hugo Lobo, accompanied by bassist Romeu Tristão and drummer Gabriel Moraes.

On the 18th, also at Teatro da Comuna, the program begins with a performance by Combos from the Luiz Vilas-Boas Jazz School and includes a round table with Zé Eduardo, founder of the school, Gonçalo Marques, the current pedagogical director, and also with musicians Bruno Santos and Pedro Moreira (president of the Board of Directors of Hot Clube de Portugal), "who come together to reflect on 'The teaching of jazz in Portugal'".

On Hot Clube's anniversary, March 19, the festival moves to Fórum Lisboa, where there will be a concert by Orquestra e Sexteto do 'Hot', in which "the two main resident formations of the Clube will present a program composed by important compositions that were recorded in that founding year [1948]".

The Orchestra, conducted by saxophonist Pedro Moreira, "will present pieces by composers such as Duke Ellington, Woody Herman and Dizzy Gillespie, three outstanding and innovative figures in orchestral jazz from that decade".

Daily tickets for the festival, costing 10 euros, will be on sale at the concert venues on the same day, but tickets for Forum Lisbon are also available for advance sale via email silviamoreira@hcp.pt.

The concerts by Combos, the round table and the performance by Zé Eduardo and João Paulo Esteves da Silva, all on the 18th, are free of charge.

Admission is also free for Hot Clube Portugal members, but it will be "subject to room capacity".
