According to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts the occurrence of sometimes heavy precipitation with conditions for hail and thunderstorms starting this afternoon in the North, moving across the whole country on Thursday, during the morning in some places in the South region and, with greater intensity, in the North and Centre regions, especially from the afternoon onwards.

In view of this meteorological situation, ANEPC warns that flooding may occur in urban areas, caused by the accumulation of rainwater due to the obstruction of drainage systems, as well as floods, caused by the overflow of some watercourses, rivers and streams.

ANEPC also warns of the possible dragging of loose objects onto the roadways, the detachment of mobile or poorly fixed structures, due to episodes of strong wind.

ANEPC recalls that the possible impact of these effects can be minimised, above all through the adoption of appropriate behaviour, which is why, and particularly in historically more vulnerable areas, it is recommended to adopt and publicise self-protection measures for these situations, such as, for example, ensuring that storm drainage systems are unobstructed.
