The turnout allowed the Lisbon club to surpass the numbers held by FC Barcelona since 2010, when 57,088 members elected Sandro Rosell as president of the Catalan club, according to a report by ECO.
On October 25th, during the first round of voting, Benfica had already surpassed the record, with a total of 86,297 voters. However, this number could not be recognised by the Guinness Book of Records, as no governing bodies were elected in that election.
Two weeks ago, none of the six candidate lists received more than 50% of the votes, so a second round was necessary, now contested by the two candidates with the most votes: Rui Costa, the incumbent president, representing List G, and manager João Noronha Lopes, representing List F.
Therefore, as there will necessarily be a decision regarding the elected governing bodies, the final number of voting members will be recognised by Guinness after this Saturday's election.
