According to Infraestruturas de Portugal, on the Northern Line, the signalling system failure, which prevents communication with the line, forced the suspension of rail traffic between Entroncamento and Santarém at 7:00 AM.
On the Alentejo Line, the track collapse was registered around 9:10 AM, leading to the suspension of traffic between Pinhal Novo and Poceirão for about 20 minutes. At 9:30 AM, traffic resumed in both directions, but only on one track.
Mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago have been affected since Wednesday by the effects of Storm Claudia, with heavy rain, wind, and rough seas, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
The bad weather has already caused hundreds of minor floods, preventing traffic on some roads and hindering others.
