Jenny, President of The Association for the Protection of Animals Algarve, is speaking from experience. Their recent hit Charity Variety Performance hit the headlines after two outstanding evenings.

Sold out, donations still rolling in from those who could not attend. “Believing in Paul’s idea was a challenge, but he came through with a completely unusual but professional production.” The photo-image backdrop served as scenery for each of the live-performances, and especially effective for the Pirates-coming-and-going. Atmospheric.

Paul Jokinen-Carter assisted by co-director Sarah Silverstone managed to bring off the entire production. They had first-class hands-on-deck assistance by Sarah Burbridge as Stage Manager, both cast and crew pulled out the stops during rehearsals and for the performances. Receiving just under 8000€ the entire team want to thank the audiences for their wonderful support and encouragement.

“The prizes for the draws each evening were gathered by a troup of American ladies, who put their heart and soul into the project.” Thanks to all of them the audiences had a wonderful evening. Now that the season has been completed the ‘Pop-Up’ tables dusted, final event tucked away. It is time for the APAA team to curl up for a Christmas and New Year.

“Well we all have to put our hats on.” Jenny waves the accounts. “Deciding where the money is spent. Increased costs for everyone, all the shelters and associations need more than volunteers now, they need cash too!” Most of the proceeds will go to the feral cat-colonies the cost of their food and sterilisation.

APAA’s SNiP or Spaying and Neutering Programme as it is known will assist all the communities in need. The rising numbers of feral felines is on the increase. As is the illnesses spread amongst them. “We have to act fast and try to keep the damage to an absolute minimum, the funding for which is never enough. Thanks to our wonderful audiences we can work a little harder with our animals giving them the help they need and homes they deserve.” A final thank you must go to Paul the two Sarah’s and the teams they managed so skilfully all the way through. Not forgetting that the cast and crew’s hard work. Thank you!
