In total, Portugal exceeded 30.5 million guests and 77.8 million overnight stays, which translated into more than €6.8 billion in revenue, reveals Publituris.

In November 2025 alone, the tourist accommodation sector recorded 2.2 million guests and 5.1 million overnight stays, corresponding to increases of 0.8% and 1% respectively. In total, €393.5 million in total revenue and €289.3 million in revenue from accommodation were generated.

Overnight stays

In terms of overnight stays in November 2025, INE data shows that the Centre region and the Autonomous Region of the Azores showed no change. However, all the other regions increased the number of overnight stays, with the biggest growth being recorded in the Alentejo, followed by the Algarve and the North.

In total, Lisbon leads the way in terms of overnight stays, registering 1.4 million, followed by the North with 972 thousand and the Algarve with 877 thousand.

Where more Portuguese residents slept was in the Algarve, with an increase of 22.1 %, followed by the Setúbal Peninsula. The Azores and the Centre saw decreases of 5.2% and 4.3%, respectively.

Foreign market

In November, the ten main inbound markets accounted for 70% of total overnight stays by non-residents, with the British market maintaining its lead with 13.8% of the total, although it continued the downward trend of recent months, falling 4.1% compared to the same month last year (-3.5% in October), totalling 471,000 overnight stays in the 11th month.

British tourists continue to be the biggest visitors to Portugal, accounting for 13.8 % of overnight stays, despite the decrease in recent months.

The German market came second, with 13% of overnight stays in November, an increase of 4.5%, totalling 440,000 overnight stays. It was followed by the North American market, which accounted for 13% of overnight stays.

The German market, the second main source market in November (13% of the total), continued to grow, +4.5% (after +1.2% in October), totalling 440,000 overnight stays. The North American market followed in 3rd place, with a share of 10.2% and an increase of 3.7% (+2.2% in October) to 347,000 overnight stays.

Among the main inbound markets in November, it was the Canadian market that showed the biggest increase (+14.8%), with a total of 115,000 overnight stays. The biggest decrease was in the French market, with a fall of 10.5%, or 174,000 overnight stays.

Lisbon accounted for 23.8% of overnight stays in November, and was the municipality of choice for 29.4% of foreign tourists who visited Portugal in November.

Funchal was the second municipality with the highest number of overnight stays, totalling 485,600 (9.6%), where 2.3% of overnight stays were from non-residents. Overnight stays by residents in Portugal fell by 7.7%. The municipality of Funchal recorded 12.2% of overnight stays from non-residents in November.

In Porto, there were 466,700 overnight stays, 9.2% of the total, an increase of 4.8%. In total, overnight stays from residents grew by 5.9% and those from non-residents by 4.5%
