Atlânticoline stated on its website that “due to adverse weather conditions,” it cancelled Tuesday’s Green Line trip (Horta/Cais do Pico/Velas/Cais do Pico/Horta) and the scheduled Pink Line trips (connecting the islands of Corvo and Flores).

The Blue Line (Horta/Madalena/Horta) trips are also cancelled following the closure of the port of Madalena between 3:30 pm local time (one hour later in Lisbon) today and 6:00 am local time on Wednesday.

Atlânticoline regrets “any inconvenience” that the cancellations may cause.

On another note, the company informs that “the severe deterioration in weather conditions over the next few days, particularly rough seas”, is likely to affect maritime transport operations in the region.
The captain of the Port of Horta, Amílcar Gomes Braz, has ordered the closure of the port of Madalena, on the island of Pico, to all shipping between 3:30 pm today and 6:00 am on Wednesday, “due to weather conditions, namely the state of the sea”.

This is due to the influence of the Joseph depression, which is passing through the Azores, bringing bad weather to Madeira and the mainland as well.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has raised the warning to red for the Western and Central Azores due to rough seas, with waves up to 10 metres forecast.

In a statement issued by IPMA, the Western group (Flores and Corvo) is under a red warning (the most serious on a scale of three) between 8 pm local time on Monday and 6 pm on Tuesday, due to rough seas, with “north-westerly waves up to 10 metres high and a maximum height of up to 19 metres”.

A red warning was also issued for the Central group of the archipelago (Terceira, Graciosa, Pico, São Jorge and Faial) for rough seas between 3 am and 8 pm on Tuesday, due to forecasts of “north-westerly waves up to 10 metres in significant height and 19 metres in maximum height”.
