On 18 April, the Vila Galé Porto-Centro Hotel will be the stage for the first edition of the Fusión Ibérica Wine Experience, an initiative that brings together – and side-by-side in the glass – the richness of Castilla y León and the authenticity of the Douro Demarcated Region.
With more than 200 wines to taste, the event celebrates the territorial and cultural continuity of a river that unites some of the world's most prestigious terroirs.
The program is designed to offer discovery opportunities for both professionals and enthusiastic visitors, guaranteeing a complete immersion in wine culture through tastings and free training.
Participants will have access to masterclasses focused on the similarities and differences between the grape varieties shared by the Peninsula, such as the emblematic Tempranillo (Tinta Roriz) and the freshness of Verdejo (Gouveio).
To facilitate everyone's participation, the organisation has made online pre-sale tickets available with special conditions, ensuring that those interested can plan their presence on a journey that includes direct contact with producers and sessions commented on by the renowned Head Sommelier David Teixeira.
The choice of Porto as host city has special symbolic meaning, representing the final destination of a journey that begins in the highlands of Castilla y León and culminates in the oldest demarcated wine region in the world.
As Maria Helena Duarte, director of the magazine Paixão Pelo Vinho, points out, this is an "invitation to a meeting place," where the diversity of 14 Spanish designations of origin, such as Ribera del Duero and Rueda, merges with the unique richness of the native Portuguese grape varieties.
Although the event comes at a time of great enthusiasm, experts point out the challenges the sector faces, particularly in managing an increasingly competitive market where identity and authenticity are crucial for attracting new audiences.
Strengthening cross-border cooperation is seen as a critical priority for these regions to maintain their global relevance. However, the Fusión Ibérica Wine Experience 2026 positions itself as the right answer to this challenge, transforming the border into a bridge of flavours and consolidating the Douro, from one end to the other, as an unparalleled axis of tourist and economic excellence.
