The transport system will operate daily between 9 am and 5 pm, Carris announced, adding that operating hours will be extended in the coming weeks.

"The Graça Funicular can be used by holders of the Navegante pass. Occasional passengers can purchase the on-board fare, applied to this type of equipment, of €4.30, which allows for two trips," added the public transport company.

In the statement, the company also indicated that it will test the installation of a "queue management pilot, seeking to prioritise access for frequent passengers, holders of the Navegante pass".

This equipment, inaugurated in 2024 and awarded the 2024 Valmor Prize, was closed about seven months ago following the accident involving the Glória elevator and underwent a "technical verification of safety conditions".

After this technical verification, it received the renewal of the "Operating License," recognising that it meets "all the necessary requirements to be able to operate safely, on the part of the IMT - Institute of Mobility and Transport, said Carris, who manages that funicular.

The Graça funicular was inaugurated about two years ago, on 12 March 2024, 15 years after construction began, causing the initial budget to 'slip' to €7 million.

Following the derailment of the Glória elevator on 3 September 2025, the Lisbon City Council "immediately" suspended the operation of the Bica and Lavra elevators and the Graça funicular to allow the equipment to be inspected.

The Graça funicular, which provides transportation between Mouraria and Graça, has a single track with rails and only two stops at the beginning of each journey. It can transport up to 14 people per trip, which lasts about 1.5 minutes.
