This year’s celebrations coincided with Climate Week and the anniversary of the city of Quarteira, adding further significance to the events organised throughout the week.

One of the highlights took place on 13 May, when Quarteira marked its 27th anniversary with the inauguration of a new football pitch at Passeio das Dunas and the opening of the municipality’s first dog park. Municipal representatives also visited several ongoing investment projects in the city, including construction works at the Forte Novo kindergarten.

The day concluded with the presentation of Cicatrizes, a book by Quarteira-born musician Dino d’Santiago, described as an emotional self-portrait by one of Portugal’s best-known contemporary artists.

Environmental awareness played a major role throughout the week, with activities including climate walks, school garden initiatives and the distribution of balance bikes to kindergarten children, aimed at encouraging sustainable mobility from an early age.

Culture was also a central part of the programme, with theatre performances and talks focusing on the archaeological heritage of Loulé’s historic centre.

Meanwhile, the traditional Festa da Espiga in Salir once again attracted visitors with ethnographic parades, gastronomy, handicrafts and live music, celebrating the area’s rural traditions.

The municipality also honoured public employees with 25 and 35 years of service and reinforced its commitment to climate action through exhibitions and educational initiatives hosted at the Municipal Library.

According to mayor Telmo Pinto, the programme sought to strengthen community spirit while promoting sustainability, cultural decentralisation and local identity across the municipality.
