Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa sends UN value appeal

The President of Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, defends that pandemic situation makes it even more urgent to think about the United Nations (UN) values “peace, human rights and justice”.

This year, on 24 October, the UN celebrates 75 years and for the occasion the President of Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, appeals to everyone to follow the UN principles.

In a message published on the portal of the Republican Presidency, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa reinforced the importance of maintaining the values. “The special circumstances caused by covid-19 pandemic, which it is one of the hugest global challenges that the states have faced since its creation”, he said.

“This year, in which the UN celebrates 75 years, it is time to think about the promise of the United Nations, Portugal included, to the multilateralism and the United Nations”, writes the President.
