Tourism worth 8% of GDP in 2018

The gross value added (GVA) generated by tourism was €14.09 billion in 2018, representing 8% of total national GVA, up from 7.7% in 2017, Statistics Portugal (INE) said on Wednesday.

The GVA (final result of productive activity in a given period) generated by tourism of €14,09 billion meant a growth of 8% compared to the value generated in 2017 (€13.05 billion), higher than the GVA growth of the national economy (3.9%).

According to the first estimate of the Tourism Satellite Account (CST), released today, tourism demand (consumption of tourism in the economic territory) increased by 7.7% compared to 2017, equivalent in 2018 to 14.6% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
