On the occasion of National Blood Donor Day, which is celebrated on Monday, the federation will launch an awareness campaign with information on blood donation and collection sites.
In 2021, around 35,000 people gave blood for the first time, a number that the federation considers positive, although it argues that it is necessary to continue the work of raising awareness among the younger population and in schools.
“It is important that the 27th of March is not limited to just one day, but to extend this spirit to all other days of the year”, underlined the federation, in a statement.

I have tried to give blood at my local hospital. I an O negative which is universal. However as I was living in the UK in the late 80's when mad cow disease was prevelant, they would not accept my blood. Surely my blood can be tested to be sure it is clear. They can't be that desperate for blood.
