The town of Castro Marim will host the 26th edition of Medieval Days from August 27th to 31st, a historical recreation event that takes the town's streets back to the Middle Ages.
For five days, Castro Marim Castle will be the epicenter of the event, with live demonstrations of crafts and leather and iron production, as well as medieval horse tournaments, the Faro district council said in a statement.
One of the highlights of the event, organized by the municipality, is the parade, which takes place on the first and last days, in the late afternoon, and includes all the entertainers, extras, and townspeople who participate annually dressed in medieval costumes.
Another highlight of the Medieval Days in Castro Marim is the banquets, held in an exclusive, torch-lit space, with a menu featuring seasonal delicacies, accompanied by performances by entertainment groups, the municipality adds.
The event brings together around 30 national and international entertainment groups from countries such as Italy and France, and includes participation from the French town of Guérande, twinned with Castro Marim, and Cortegana, in Spain.
These groups will rotate and perform across various stages, from the market to the castle, presenting street theater and including groups of jugglers, fire-breathers, bagpipers, tightrope walkers, swordsmen, snake charmers, parades, and falconry demonstrations.
Castro Marim Castle also hosts exhibitions of instruments of torture and punishment and the First Headquarters of the Order of Christ.
At the Fort of S. Sebastião, a historical recreation of civil and military daily life in the 17th century, during the Restoration period, will take place, with presentations and demonstrations by professionals from the Royal Academy of the Rosary.
