According to a study conducted by the Portuguese Association of Shopping Centers (APCC), weekends represent more than a third of the revenue.

The study, conducted by Reduniq Insights, indicates that the growth trend in revenue for shopping centres will continue, according to a statement from the APCC, an association with 170 members that includes 104 shopping centres, which integrate approximately 8,500 stores.

From 2024 to 2025, there was an "11% increase in the number of transactions", with the average value per purchase with electronic payment methods being €36.4, according to the summary of the sector's annual activity report.

"Weekends maintain a very significant weight in the activity of the entire ecosystem, representing about 36% of total sales, with Saturday being the best day of the week, with 19%, and Sunday the second best, reaching 17% (an increase compared to 16% in 2024)," says the association.

Foreign customer consumption accounts for 12% of revenue.

According to APCC, "the after-work period also maintains a significant weight, with 38% of customers opting to shop from 6 pm onwards."

Also, according to the same note, "fashion continues to have the greatest weight in total revenue (34%), followed by supermarkets (26%) and restaurants (11%)."

Among these three segments with the greatest weight, "the sector that registered the greatest growth was supermarkets (in 2024 they represented 23%)."

The association says the sector employs more than 350,000 workers, with shopping malls receiving "more than 650 million visits per year".
