Madeira reports first Covid-19 death

Madeira has registered its first Covid-19 related death - a woman aged 97 who had been in hospital in Funchal

According to the Madeira Health Board, the woman was admitted last week upon which tests confirmed she was positive for Covid-19.

In all, the region has had 447 confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic. Madeira had until now been the only part of Portugal without deaths associated with Covid-19.
