The island government decided to “declare the contingency situation in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, under the terms of Regional Legislative Decree no. Madeira, for public health reasons within the scope of containment of the Covid-19 pandemic ”, reads the information.

In the document, it is pointed out that this situation has “effects from 00:00 hours on January 16, 2022 until 23:59 hours on January 31, 2022, maintaining the pandemic control standards”.

The contingency situation in this archipelago has been in force since November 20, when the archipelago's executive determined the mandatory submission of a negative antigen test and vaccination certificate to access most public and private spaces.

On December 29, the Government of Madeira also decided to reduce the period for the isolation of asymptomatic infected by SARS-CoV-2 to five days.
